2018 Queensland Juniors - Report

Key event of the year for many juniors in Queensland, the Queensland Juniors Championships were held at BTTA from July 1-4.

Last year in Mackay, the Wynnum contingent of 6 players and 1 coach had managed to bring 17 medals back home, including 4 Gold, 3 Silver and 10 Bronze.

With 16 players and 4 coaches involved this year, but with an opposition overall much stronger, the goal was to break this record.

Proof that the Wynnum Juniors program is working well, we were able to have players representing us in all age groups of the team event. Taste for effort and team spirit were the two main values we wanted to bring to the table, and our junior team captain Daniel Strube had insisted on that during his speech at the last training session.

Here is a wrap up of the results:

It is a total of 17 medals, including 6 Gold, 6 Silver and 5 Bronze.

But that’s not it, 6 players have been selected to represent Queensland at the Nationals Juniors Championships that will be held in Townsville at the end of September. Congratulations to Hayden Green, Tahnee Green, Jithen Aluwihare, Brian Liao, Lockie Green and Rachel Goh for this massive achievement.

Brian Liao was also rewarded with the Incentive Shield for being the best and fairest first timer at Queensland Juniors, not bad!

A huge thanks to the Paul, Peng and Dennis, without whom nothing would be possible, and also to the parents who are making a huge effort to support their kid’s development and the Wynnum Junior program in general.

The future starts now!
