We just flew back from Juniors Nationals, and let’s say it straight away, we have done well! 6 WTTA players were selected to represent Queensland in the different age groups:
Rachel Goh – U11 Girls
Lockie Green – U13 Boys B
Brian Liao – U13 Boys A
Jithen Aluwihare – U15 Boys B
Tahnee Green – U15 Girls
Hayden Green – U18 Boys
The goals for these Nationals were different for each player, but every single one of them had the clear instruction that nothing else that an excellent attitude and enthusiasm over the week was expected.
It was the first time competing at this level for Rachel, Lockie, Brian and Jithen. Compared to states like Victoria and New South Wales, Queensland is pretty weak. Therefore, when you have never had any exposure to the national standard, the step up can be pretty hard. Imagine that, you win most of the tournaments in your state, everyone tells you how great you are, and for the first time you feel completely random… Mental toughness and taste for effort would be prerequisites in order to stand a chance.
This year, the kids have written up their own reports, and we will send 2 reports a week to everyone, living Nationals from the player’s point of view. All I can say is that I’m very proud of the efforts made by the guys all over the week. Their results are a fair reward for the hard work they are putting in day in day out.
For this first week, our 2 Under 13 Boys first timers are up.
